Curriculum vitae

Michael Rufer (born in 1967) studied medicine in Berlin and gained experience as a junior and senior physician in several psychiatric clinics in Switzerland and Germany. In 1998, he obtained his specialist title in Psychiatry and Psychotherapy, and in 2010, the FMH subspecialty in Consultation and Liaison Psychiatry. From 2004 to 2017, Michael Rufer headed the outpatient clinic of the Department of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy (now called the Department of Consultation Psychiatry and Psychosomatics) at the University Hospital in Zurich (USZ). In 2017, he became Chief Physician and Head of the Center for Social Psychiatry at the Department of Psychiatry, Psychotherapy and Psychosomatics of the Psychiatric University Hospital Zurich (PUK Zurich). Starting in 2008, he also served as Deputy Clinical Director, first at USZ, then at PUK Zurich. From 2013 to 2021, he was Associate Professor ad personam for Psychotherapy and Psychosomatics at the University of Zurich. Since mid-2021, Michael Rufer has been Chief Physician at Klinik Zugersee, while maintaining his affiliation with PUK Zurich for research and teaching.
