FICUS trial: first results published in JAMA Internal Medicine
The FICUS trial (Family Support Intervention in Intensive Care Units) uses a cluster-randomized trial to test the effectiveness of a nurse-led, interprofessional family support intervention in ICUs on quality of family care, family management, and individual mental health. First results have now been published in JAMA Internal Medicine.

Family-focused care model in the Intensive Care Unit Permanently Implemented: Reports by Swiss Radio and Television (SRF)
The family-focused care model FICUS® has become reality: Hirslanden Clinic Zurich is the first hospital in Switzerland to sustainably integrate this innovative care model into their ICU services. The model was developed and evaluated with the FICUS trial led by nursing scientist Prof. Dr. Rahel Naef. Swiss Radio and Television (SRF) recently dedicated two reports to this novel approach to care.

Data Collection for the FICUS Study Completed
An important milestone in the FICUS study (Family Support Intervention in Intensive Care Units) has been reached: Data collection has been successfully completed. As early as the beginning of 2024, the enrollment of almost 900 members of ICU patients across German-speaking Switzerland was finalized. The research team now enters the next phase—data analysis. First results are expected later this year.

887 participants enrolled in FICUS trial
The 16 intensive care units (ICU) in German-speaking Switzerland involved in the FICUS trial have recruited 887 family members of ICU patients over a period of 19 months into the study. The enrollment aim was achieved by the end of 2023.

FICUS trial begins recruitment of participants
The intensive care units participating in the FICUS trial have started recruiting family members of ICU patients from German-speaking Switzerland in June.
